Why You're Still Failing

Updated: Feb 7, 2020

" Wishing is a fool's motivator to do nothing"

I hate to say it, I hope I don't sound ridiculous but sorry about your goals. We are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for, yet we If you are anything like me since the genesis of this year your head has been on a swivel. Everywhere you turn there has been a new breaking story. We are amazed for a few days, solemn even but then we move on. We still have responsibilities, hopes, and dreams so we keep on keeping on. But that keeping on is purposeless. You find yourself failing again and you've accomplished very little.

Why is that?

Why are you still failing?

I believe it is because change is intimidating. It requires from us more than we are willing our ready to give. We are uncomfortable, but not enough, We tell ourselves that because we are surviving, we don't have to fix our situations right now.

Even worse than that we fool ourselves with endless "planning". By the time you've worked up the courage, the opportunities are no longer viable. We wish we had more insight, we wish we had connections, we wish we were motivated, we wish we had more time. We wish until envy becomes a scale on our eyes as we witness the doers with the fruits of their labor!

Wishing is a fool's motivator to do nothing and momma ain't raised a fool now did she?

Here are six ways you can move forward with purpose this month:

Write things down. Writing solidifies the masterpieces you have created in your mind. This way you can see what needs to be improved, erased our added. Write down your specific goals in categories that are simple and sensible. Be realistic but forward thinking. Be sure to include space for personal development, academic, wellness, and relationships.

Spend time in solitude: You are doing too much. The world is fast and it is loud. Furthermore, it doesn't care about you our your needs. You have a responsibility to yourself to go after the things that you crave. There are no handouts and no one is obligated to help. It is a depressing notion but it is the truth nonetheless. Spend time with God, his word and self. Practice being silent. Practice introspection. Be ok with being alone, be ok with not being ok all the time. Time in solitude endorses healthy habits of self reliance and preservation.

Delay your gratification: Instant gratification is the killer of all dreams. Almost everything that will make you feel good right now will almost always lead to an inevitable demise. Control your need for attention, the need to be full, the need to constantly buy, a need to engage in illicits , a need for sex. Redirect those needs into accomplishments. Instead of buying, sell. Instead of consuming, make, instead of feeding your body, feed your mind. Teach your body to on clarity of thought, rebuke the need to supplement the human experience. Feel the joy that surrounds you, but also feel the pain. It is the water your soul needs to grow.

Budget: There are so many templates available online for the management of resources. You do not have to be told to manage your money. I also wish to presume you already know that your time is more valuable than any paycheck, but I am telling you again. Your freedom to explore life, to impart knowledge, to provide for those who depend on you is of utmost importance. Do not be fooled into believing that your budget should allow you to hoard. Instead, it is a tool to free your time, so you can spend it where it is needed most.

Invest: Have you ever had a lyric or phrase stuck in your head? Ok, great but what about when you can't quite figure out where it's from? You ask friends, family members, strangers, just so you can get rid of the angst that you feel. That is how you should feel about investment, it should make you uncomfortable but with the hope of eventually figuring it out. Do your research, you ask questions, you read, you look up the bountiful resources that are at your disposal. But what should you be investing in? Invest in people, teach someone you know a valuable skill. Invest your money where you are not taking a risk that will interfere with what you've already built, because careful of your desire to quickly acquire wealth at any cost, it will never work out well.

Ask for help: Your goals should terrify you but not having enough information cannot be your excuse. Do not be afraid to ask those you know or even those you hate, use social media, it is this generation's greatest asset. I highly recommend the twitter community for this purpose. Read books that have nothing to do with your specialty, watch videos that will foster your growing curiosity, join associations or found one. Be unrelenting in your fight for more, because if you can't go hard for you, I cannot promise you that anyone else will.

Do your self a favor and be a better you than even you can imagine.
